KINGSWAY MAKES SURE THE FOCUS IS ON SAFETY
The filming of a short production for Kingsway Business Park explaining the hidden dangers of building sites took place this week with BTEC Performing Arts students of Springhill High School dramatising the project.
The Kingsway Partnership is producing the short film in a joint venture with Springhill High School in order to highlight the message that building sites should be avoided at all costs. The ERDF part funded project hopes to use the film as a tool to educate young people throughout the Rochdale borough.
Year 10 pupils started their day of filming with a workshop led by local drama facilitator, Chris Sudworth and went on to shoot scenes in the school grounds and Turf Hill Park. The scenes follow the characters in their ‘trespass’ onto a building site and exploring it as they would a playground. The serious consequences of trespassing onto a construction site will be stressed however, as three fatal accidents transpire to provide a chilling end to the film.
In addition to the film production the project will include a further two theatre pieces with game shows and quizzes for a more interactive approach. This will be toured around those schools closest to the Kingsway development and it is hoped that the film will be premiered at the Odeon Cinema by late spring.
Liz Phillips, Director of Arts at Springhill High, explains: “The project has been a fantastic opportunity to link the arts with business and the students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to develop skills such as acting on camera and interacting with live audiences”.
Helen Darwent, Kingsway Recruitment Team Manager for the Kingsway Partnership comments: “Kingsway will provide a huge range of opportunities for future generations. It is important that we work with the young people of Rochdale Borough to raise awareness of Kingsway and its opportunities, and health and safety is an important starting point”.
The film was directed and produced by Danny Lomax at Glass Eye Productions. During the production at no point were students filmed on a building site.
